Video Presentation

Each video will be reviewed by the panel of judges. Your video should explain and support the proposed project you wrote about in your essay. Videos must be no longer than five minutes and in English. Please use subtitles if you include a testimonial from someone who does not speak English.

Judging Criteria

Videos must include the following elements:

• Introduction to the contestant and his or her proposal (for example, “My name is Juan and my project is. . .”).
• Explanation of the problem you want to solve and how you got your idea.
• Explanation of how to implement your idea.
• What you would expect in the future if your project was put into effect.

Video Production and Postproduction

How the video is produced is up to each contestant (recording and/or editing). It may be a simple video with the contestant speaking directly into the camera the entire time or it may be edited to include images and explanatory videos that support the proposed project. Avoid the use of copyrighted material in video, images, and audio.
Regardless of how their video is produced, contestants must appear in front of the camera at least once (introducing themselves and their proposed project) so the panel of judges can see them.

Recording

Recording may be done with a digital video camera, a mobile phone device or webcam.

The most important thing is to ensure sound quality. If you record the audio with the microphone that is built into the camera, be sure it is close enough to capture the sound properly.

When shooting people talking to camera, try a medium shot (framing the subject from the waist to the top of the head) or a close up (from the shoulders to the top of the head). Be sure you have enough light. Avoid taping in front of a window or with a strong light source behind the subject (strong backlight can darken the subject). If you are using a video camera, use the “white balance” function to ensure the proper color.

Use a tripod or place the camera on a stable surface so that it won’t move. If you move the camera in any way, for example with the zoom function, make sure you do so very slowly.  

Editing

If you choose to, you may edit your video with images or animation. Editing may be done with any Mac or PC editing program.  

Technical Specifications

1. The duration of the video must not exceed 5 minutes.
2. It may be encoded in any of the following formats: MP4, WMV, MOV, GP3, or FLV.
3. Maximum file size is 100MB.

After editing and encoding the video according to the specifications described above, name the file in the following way namelastname(video format).extension. For example, juanperezwmv.wmv

Submitting Your Video

When your video is ready, it should be sent the video address from Yousendit or Dropbox to concurso.orange@gmail.com. Twenty-four hours after submitting your video, you will receive notification that your file was received and that the video is working without any problems. (Notification may be delayed for submissions made on weekends and holidays.)

Important

Your video is confidential and for the exclusive use of this contest and its judges, it cannot be published on any Internet video service (such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc.). Contestants who violate this rule will be disqualified.
